Signs of the Times

When our pastor posted this on his FB wall I was appalled:

Then I read this article on BBC News, and I was even more appalled.

A survey done for the Bible Society in the UK, based on a poll of 800 children aged eight to 15 and about 1,100 parents, found almost three in 10 young people were unaware that the story of Jesus’ birth came from the Bible.

Their parents were not any better, with nearly half failing to recognize Noah's ark as a Bible story. And more appalling was, there was a significant amount of confusion whether something appears in the Bible, Harry Potter or the Hunger Games.

On the upside, many of these parents saw the Bible as a source of good values for their children.

More than ever, we need grace to remind us that before any more alarming signs of the times can gobble us up into a chasm of cluelessness, we have to go back to the Book of Truth.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Word of God will not come back to Him void. Scripture shared on FB will surely be planted in hearts open to Christ.

All we can do is plant, plant, plant. The Holy Spirit will make those seeds grow.
