Ooops, Strategy Shift

For perhaps a couple of years, I had chosen the best seat in church. By best I mean being able to worship the Lord as an active participant rather than a passive spectator despite my failing sight and hearing.

A monitor and a loudspeaker nearby solved my problems. And by the aisle I could walk without risk of falling to drop my tithes at the altar.

In that seat—through our pastor’s message, the hymns of worship, prayers, and Scripture—I could worship in complete surrender.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.”  John 4:23 ESV

Last month I blogged about this best seat.

Then something happened. A generous soul donated an air-conditioning unit on the wall close to my seat because it was a dead air zone (perfect for me!), but unbearably hot to my pew mates.

Time for a strategy shift!

I moved across the aisle, also with a monitor and a loudspeaker on the wall, minus the new, freezing, cooling unit.

In the corporate world, we called this parallel strategy

Our 51st church anniversary: beside my brother Matt who came visiting

While individual worship should happen daily, we are commanded to worship collectively as a spiritual family in church on Sundays. Corporate worship keeps us conjoined with our faith brethren for a grace dialogue, where God speaks to us, and we respond.
